A semachory is the spread through wind or animal movements (shock propagation), external forces trigger a spread.

It is divided into the spread of plant seeds by animal and wind ballists , as well as animal or wind scattering .

The semachory is typical of a large number of plant taxa that form capsule fruits , pods and follicles . However, it is also a typical form of seed propagation for some sunflower family . The seeds of this plant taxa are usually very small and light. The plants usually develop their fruits on long and elastic fruit stalks, just as the entire plant often develops elastic stems. The stems are elastically bent over by the wind or the entanglement of the fruit in animal fur. If the fruit bounces back after loosening it from the animal's skin or after reducing wind pressure, the seeds are scattered out of the opened fruit.

Typical wind spreaders are, for example, poppies and bluebells . Typical animal shakers include the thorn apple and henbane .
