Semen Palij

Semen Palij (birth name: Hurko, Ukrainian Семен Палій , * approx. 1640 in Borsna , † approx. January 18, 1710 in Kiev ) was a Cossack general and colonel in the regiment from Fastiw . He was buried in the Meschyhirja monastery near Kiev.

Life

Palij studied at the Kiev Mohyla Academy . He then became a registered Cossack in the Nizhyn Regiment. In the 1670s he moved to the Zaporozhian Sitsch . He later became a colonel in the army of the Polish King John III. Sobieski and, according to some sources, participated with his army in 1683 in the liberation of Vienna during the Great Turkish War .
