Vegetative characteristics

Sempervivum ruthenicum grows as a closed or open, very short downy-haired rosette plant with a diameter of 4 to 8 centimeters and forms runners 3 to 5 centimeters long. The oblong obovate to obovate-wedge-shaped, short small-pointed or pointed leaves are densely downy-haired. The green leaf blade is about 50 millimeters long and 15 millimeters wide. The lashes on the edge are pretty stiff.

Generative characteristics

The flowering shoot reaches a length of 15 to 30 centimeters. It has elongated, lanceolate leaves that are more or less apart. The loose inflorescence is equilateral. The 12 to 16-fold flowers are on 1 to 5 millimeter long flower stalks . Their elongated egg-shaped or narrowly lanceolate, green, 3 to 4 millimeter long petals are fused together at their base. The linear to linear-lanceolate, tapering sepals have a length of about 10 millimeters and are 1.5 millimeters wide. They are greenish yellow and tinged with purple at their base. The stamens are white to pink, the anthers are yellow. The rounded, conspicuously upturned nectar scales are somewhat spread out.
