description

Vegetative characteristics

Sempervivum staintonii grows as a few- leaved rosette plant with a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters and forms only a few runners . The ovate or obovate, pointed leaves are glabrous when fully ripe. They are glauk and turn bronze red in summer. The leaf blade is 15 to 20 millimeters long, 7 to 8 millimeters wide and about 5 millimeters thick. The eyelashes on the edge of the sheet are turned back.

Generative characteristics

The ten to twelve-fold flowers have a diameter of 1 to 1.5 centimeters. Their ovate petals are thick. The sepals, which are spread out to strongly turned back, are light yellow and about 11 millimeters long. The stamens are white, the anthers are yellow. The nectar flakes are narrow and elongated.

Systematics and distribution

Sempervivum staintonii is distributed in the north-east of Turkey in granite rock crevices at altitudes of around 1800 meters. The species is only known from the locality of the type.

The first description by Clara Winsome Muirhead was published in 1969.
