Sempervivum zeleborii is a species of houseleek ( Sempervivum ) in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae). The specific epithet zeleborii honors the Austrian zoologist Johann Zelebor.

Vegetative characteristics

Sempervivum zeleborii grows as a short, downy-haired, almost spherical rosette plant with a diameter of 3 to 5 centimeters and forms short runners . The oblong obovate, short small-pointed leaves are gray-green. The leaf blade is about 20 millimeters long and about 8 millimeters wide.

Generative characteristics

The flowering shoot reaches a length of 10 to 15 centimeters. The 12 to 14-fold flowers have a diameter of about 2.5 centimeters. Their petals are ovate to ovate-lanceolate. The bright yellow sepals are lilac at their base. They are about 9 millimeters long and 1.5 millimeters wide. The stamens are purple, the anthers are yellow. The trimmed or edged, somewhat spread out nectar flakes are shorter than 0.2 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Sempervivum zeleborii is widespread in dry places in the mountains in the east of the former Yugoslavia , in the north of Greece , in Bulgaria and in the west of Romania .

The first description by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott was published in 1857.
