Heinrich Wilhelm Schott

Heinrich Wilhelm Schott (baptized January 9, 1794 in Brno , † March 5, 1865 in Vienna ) was an Austrian botanist and gardener. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Schott ".

Life

Schott took part in the Austrian expedition to Brazil between 1817 and 1821 and was appointed court gardener in Vienna in 1828 . From 1845 until his death, Schott acted as director of the court gardens and the imperial menagerie . In 1852 he also led the redesign of the Schönbrunn Palace Park into a partially English complex.

In 1857 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

Schott became known in particular for his research into the alpine flora, where he founded the Alpine Garden in the Belvedere . He also enriched the Viennese court gardens with his collections in Brazil .

Honors

After Schott plant species were Schottariella P.C.Boyce & SYWong and Schottarum P.C.Boyce & SYWong from the family of Arum named (Araceae).
