Adrian van Steckhoven (* around 1705 in Leiden ; † 1782 ) was a Dutch gardener.

The respected Dutch gardener Adrian van Steckhoven, who came from Leiden, came to the imperial court in Vienna in 1753 on the recommendation of Gerard van Swieten . Together with his assistant Richard van der Schot , he created a so-called Dutch garden on an area purchased by Emperor Franz I Stephan from the Hietzing community in 1755 . This botanical garden, which was laid out on the site of today's Palmenhausgarten in the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens , was kept entirely in the French style. Steckhoven, who was the first gardener in Schönbrunn, brought a fan palm with him to Vienna, which originally came from Asia and which he brought to bloom in the park of Schönbrunn. This was the so-called Maria-Theresien-Palme that formed the basis for the later collection of exotic plants in Schönbrunn. He also built a fountain house above the beautiful fountain , which gave the park its name, which was given its final shape in 1771 by Isidore Canevale . The overall concept of Steckhoven shapes the Schönbrunn Palace Park to this day.

In 1899 the Steckhovengasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.
