Localization of Bavaria in Germany

The Würzburg-Stadt transmitter is a transmitter of the Deutsche Funkturm , which was formerly used as a filling transmitter for television and is still used today for mobile communications. It is located in a wooded area near the Bismarck Tower in Würzburg , north of the Würzburg main station on a hill above the city center. A free-standing tubular mast is used as the antenna carrier.

The transmitter was necessary because some districts of Würzburg, including the city center and the Heidingsfeld district , were in the radio shadow of the Frankenwarte and therefore could not get their television signal from this location. The broadcasting of the analogue TV channels was stopped when DVB-T went into operation in the Würzburg area on May 29, 2006.
