Seniors trip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The senior trip is a trip specially tailored to the needs of senior citizens , whose groups of participants are defined by various tour operators as the 50+ or 60+ generation. The trip is usually carried out in a group and takes into account the expectations of single seniors. During the organization, particular attention is paid to accommodation and means of transport suitable for the handicapped, a German-speaking tour guide (for predominantly German-speaking travelers) and programs suitable for senior citizens. Bus and air travel as well as cruises are popular, as these forms of travel do not require a high level of physical performance and can also be easily undertaken by disabled participants. Among other things, trips with spa stays are also offered . In view of the increasingly better general well-being of the elderly, there is a trend towards more sports and adventure travel. (See also: wellness , hiking , walking , cycle tourism ).

Senior trips are becoming more and more important in the tourism industry . In 2003, around 30 percent of all vacation trips in Germany were for senior citizens. This increased the travel intensity of older people from 1972 to 2003 by 84 percent. While in 1972 only 38 percent of Germans over 60 were traveling, in 2003 it was already 70 percent of the 19.4 million members of this age group. By 2010, the number of German holidaymakers over 60 is expected to rise to 15.5 million. Around 300 providers in Germany have special offers for senior citizens in their program. In addition, welfare and Caritas associations and senior academies also organize trips that are suitable for senior citizens.

In view of the increasing importance of senior citizens for tourism, the German Hotel and Restaurant Association signed a target agreement on accessibility on March 12, 2005 . Minimum standards for the classification of barrier-free offers in the hotel and catering industry according to five categories were agreed. These have also been part of the German hotel classification since summer 2005 .
