Senyo Gatror Antor

Senyo Gatror Antor (* 1913 in Volta Region , † 1986 in Lomé ) was a Ghanaian politician and diplomat .

Life

From 1925 to 1931 Senyo Gatror Antor attended the Presbyterian Senior School, Amedzofe, then the Presbyterian Training College, Akropong and the Presbyterian Theological College in Ho .

From its establishment in 1951 until its ban in late 1958, he was a leading politician in the Togoland Congress and championed a Togoland within the borders of the German colony of Togo ( British Togoland and French Togoland against a colonial filleting of West Africa ).

1937-1949 he practiced the profession of teacher.

In 1949 he founded the Togoland United Nations Newsletter and was its first editor.

In 1950 he headed the Togoland delegation to the United Nations Trusteeship Council trust territory .

In 1951, 1952, 1954 and 1956 he headed the Togoland delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

In 1954 he was elected to the Joint Council for Togoland from the constituency of North Kpando Municipal District . In 1956 he was elected to the parliament of Ghana in the constituency of North Kpando Municipal District . In the same year he was a member of the opposition delegation to London on the Ghanaian constitution.

From April 1970 to January 1972, Kofi Abrefa Busia sent him to Gnassingbé Eyadéma as the Ghanaian ambassador in Lomé .

  1. The death has been reported in Lome, Togo, of Mr Senyo Gatror Antor, Ghana's Ambassador to Togo during the Second Republic. Mr Antor, 80, a former teacher and politician, was a lifelong advocate of Togoland unity. He led a group of people in the then British Mandated Togoland which sought the unification of the Volta Region with Togo. Their attempts led the United Nations to organize a plebiscite in the area in 1956. Mr Antor was serving as Ambassador in Togo when the regime of Prime Minister KA Busia was toppled.
