Senzo Robert Meyiwa (born September 24, 1987 in Durban , † October 26, 2014 in Vosloorus ) was a South African football goalkeeper .
Career
society
Meyiwa played for the clubs London Cosmos and Orlando Pirates in his youth . Since the 2005 season he played in the professional squad for the Orlando Pirates and made his debut in the 2006/07 season. With the Orlando Pirates, Meyiwa won the Premier Soccer League , the South African championship, in 2011 and 2012 .
National team
Meyiwa was in the squad for the selection of South Africa at the Africa Cup 2013 . He played his first international match in a friendly against Lesotho on June 2, 2013. At the beginning of qualifying for the Africa Cup of 2015 , he was named captain of the national team by national coach Ephraim Mashaba . He played seven caps for South Africa.
Personal
Meyiwa was married to the freelance journalist Mandisa Lulekwa Mkhize for several years and lived with her and their two children in Cape Town . From 2013 until his death he was in a relationship with the actress and Afro-pop singer Kelly Khumalo .

On the evening of October 26, 2014, Meyiwa was shot dead in a robbery in a house in Vosloorus near Johannesburg when he stood protectively in front of his girlfriend.
