Josef "Sepp" Krätz (born October 17, 1954 in Augsburg ) is a Munich restaurateur . The farmer's son and trained butcher was Wiesn host of the Hippodrom from 1995 to 2013 .

At the age of 26 he leased the “Hirschgarten” forest management. He has been married to Tina Krätz, a daughter of the former Oktoberfest host Artur Fichtl, since 2009. The two have a son together.

Tax evasion

In March 2014, Krätz was sentenced to a suspended sentence of one year and ten months and a fine of 570,000 euros for tax evasion in 36 cases relating to the income from the operation of the Hippodrom and the Andechser am Dom . Krätz had admitted to the Munich I Regional Court that he had not assessed the income from the Hippodrome and Andechser am Dom and had evaded taxes of over 1.1 million euros. In the same year, the Munich city council withdrew all restaurant concessions from him . The Munich District Office is responsible for forest management in Großhesselohe . After the judgment, he was allowed to remain one of three managing directors, but was not allowed to carry out any accounting work.

In 2015, Krätz opened a smaller hippodrome (not a tent, but in a stone building) with space for 1,800 guests in Arnulfstrasse 62 (“Postpalast”). It was open during the spring and Oktoberfest. However, this has not been the case since 2018.
