Sepp Neumayr

Sepp Neumayr (born April 3, 1932 in Kleinarl , Pongau ) is an Austrian composer who is best known in the field of brass music . He was also the district conductor of the Pongau as well as deputy regional conductor of Salzburg .

Life

Like his father, he went to woodworking after finishing school. In 1955 Neumayr joined the postal service and worked there until he founded the publishing house in 1977 when he founded his own music publishing house. Since then, Sepp Neumayr has been working as a freelance composer.

Sepp Neumayr's musical career began at the age of 10 when he learned the Styrian harmonica and later the accordion. In 1949 the Kleinarl music band was founded, which Neumayr joined, where he also received his first music lessons from the conductor and founder of the band, Martin Gwehenberger. In the course of time Neumayr learned the clarinet, flugelhorn, bass flugelhorn and bass. Neumayr then founded a dance band. In 1960 Sepp Neumayr took over the office of Kapellmeister in Kleinarl and held this position with a one-year break until 1996. Five years after starting as Kapellmeister in Kleinarl, in 1965 he had also become the district conductor of the Pongau. In 1997, he was then also the country Kapellmeister -Stellvertreter of Salzburg .

Sepp Neumayr's first compositions were written in 1951. In 1955 he was signed by the music publisher Krenn in Vienna, where 60 compositions and arrangements had been published before Sepp Neumayr was founded.

Sepp Neumayr began to compose as an autodidact and later got his music theory training from Leo Ertl.

Compositional creation

Sepp Neumayr's compositional work ranges from marches, waltzes, overtures, potpourris, character pieces, program music, dance music, songs and works for church events to opera and operetta melodies. Neumayr also lists two symphony movements by Joseph Haydn and a church sonata by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , both works were arranged and arranged by Neumayr for wind orchestra.

There are over 250 song and chorale accompaniments for line-ups and small play groups. The Pongau Brass Music Association has produced the CD "Sepp Neumayr: a life for brass music" with pieces by the composer together with the member bands.
