The sera GmbH , based in North Rhine-Westphalia Heinsberg is a German manufacturer in the field hunting , marine aquariums , garden ponds and terrariums . The medium-sized company sells its products in 80 countries and has eight branches in the USA, France, Italy, Japan, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Portugal and China.
According to the organizers of the International Pet Congress 2006 in Berlin, sera is a "leading global supplier of products for the care of aquariums, garden ponds and terrariums". history
In 1970 Josef Ravnak founded the company sera together with his wife Anny. Previously, Ravnak worked in the field of catching and reselling live feed. The basis of the product range was a new type of freeze-vacuum process for the production of dry feed. In this way, natural food, such as shrimp or mosquito larvae, could be stored outside the refrigerator without any major loss of nutrients.
In addition to types of food, products for water treatment and the care of aquarium plants, remedies for aquarium fish and a water test series - for fresh and salt water - sera developed an additional garden pond range at the end of the 1970s. Subsequently, products for reptiles were also included in the program.
The company is expanding, including in 2007 a new administration building was built and moved into at the Heinsberg site.

sera adheres to the guidelines of Good Manufacturing Practice (" Good Manufacturing Practice "). Sera develops new product lines, development and production processes in its own laboratory.
In cooperation with the Institute for Parasitology at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf , sera has also brought over-the-counter medicines to the market that fight pathogens and protect the animals during treatment.
The products include the feed of the Vipan family, which is made from environmentally friendly raw materials without genetic engineering.
