Seraina Rohrer (born December 19, 1977 in Männedorf ) is a Swiss film scholar.

Life and accomplishments

Rohrer studied film studies and journalism at the University of Zurich . She headed the press office of the Locarno Film Festival for several years and coordinated the launch of the national pilot project "Réseau Cinéma CH", a cooperation between Swiss technical colleges and universities in the field of film training. In addition, she was a member of the “Fiction” commission of the Zurich Film Foundation and wrote a dissertation on “Transnational Low-Budget Productions” at the University of Zurich and UCLA . She has worked as a curator and freelance journalist in Germany and abroad, including writing a monthly column for NZZ am Sonntag between 2012 and 2015 . She worked and lived for several years in Mexico and the USA and has written various texts on Latin American cinema, including the book "La India María: Mexploitation and the films of María Elena Velasco", which is the first work of the Mexican actor La India María lit up. Since 2011 she has directed the retrospective of Swiss film, the Solothurn Film Festival . After the festival founder Stephan Portmann and his successor Ivo Kummer, Seraina Rohrer is the first woman to be responsible for the program and organization of the Solothurn Film Festival . She is a board member in various foundations, u. a. the UBS Cultural Foundation and the Heritage Percentage Culture .

In April 2019 it was announced that she was leaving the Solothurn Film Festival and joining the Pro Helvetia cultural foundation as a member of the executive board , where she was to take over the management of the Innovation and Society division. At the beginning of August 2019, Anita Hugi took over the management of the Solothurn Film Festival.

Seraina Rohrer has a grown son.
