Serbian Orthodox Church Linz (Hafenkirche)

The Serbian Orthodox Church Linz , also known as the Hafenkirche , is located on Posthofstrasse in Linz in Upper Austria . The Serbian Orthodox Parish Church of St. Basil of Ostrog used to be the Catholic parish church of St. Severin. The church is a listed building .

history

In 1935, according to plans by Hans Feichtlbauer, the church was built as the Catholic parish church of St. Severin for the Linz district of Lustenau . It is a single nave nave with a transept , choir tower and arched porch.

At the time the church was built, the area was still more rural and petty-bourgeois. The harbor with the industrial line was only laid out by the National Socialists from 1938 , which transformed the district into an industrial and commercial area. After new residential areas had also emerged in the Kaplanhof district, it was decided to build a new Catholic church in Lederergasse , today's Severinkirche , consecrated in 1968 . The old port church was preserved as a branch church until the 1980s .

In 1990 the port church was leased to the Serbian Orthodox community in Linz, which was founded in 1969, and was later sold. Renovations and a redesign of the interior followed.
