Legend
According to legend , Serenus was a Greek Christian who immigrated to Sirmium. He had bought a garden there to cultivate and serve God. One day he was slandered by an officer's wife who accused him of violent behavior. Her husband, who served in the bodyguard of the Emperor Maximian, turned to the Emperor and accused Serenus. Maximian instructed the governor of the province to summon Serenus, who, however, credibly protested his innocence. However, the defendant's impeccable behavior gave the governor the idea that he could be a Christian. When Serenus answered the question about his belief truthfully, the governor sentenced him to death and had him beheaded.
