Serge Pelletier (born November 21, 1965 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian - Swiss ice hockey coach .

Career

Pelletier played in the junior division in his home town of Québec and at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières .

Between 1989 and 1997 Pelletier worked as a trainer in the youth department of HC Lugano before he was promoted from 1997 to 2000 as assistant trainer for the club's men's team in the National League A (NLA).

For the 2000/01 season, the NLA club HC Friborg-Gottéron signed Pelletier as head coach. His first term with the "Dragons" ended in 2002. In October of the same year he took over from the dismissed head coach Doug Mason at EV Zug ; he managed to lead the EVZ to remain in the league.

Pelletier was hired by another NLA club as head coach for the following season 2003/04: At HC Ambrì-Piotta he was on the gang until November 2005. Under his leadership, the team reached the playoffs twice.

He returned to Friborg-Gottéron in 2006 for a second term, serving as head coach and sports director. In the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons, the "Dragons" reached the playoff semifinals under Pelletier. Although he had previously led the team to the playoffs again, Pelletier was dismissed in February 2011 after a negative series with just one win from seven games.

In October 2012 he took up the post of head coach at HC Ambrì-Piotta again. He took over the team as bottom of the table and led them in the relegation round to remain in the NLA. Qualification for the playoffs succeeded in the 2013/14 season. In October 2015, the Leventines parted ways with Pelletier. After a good start to the season (four of the seven games won), the team was subsequently unable to maintain this level. After a 3-6 defeat against his ex-club HC Lugano and a series of only two wins from ten games, Pelletier had to leave.

In mid-November 2017, he succeeded Alex Reinhard as the new head coach of HCC La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Swiss League . Pelletier remained in office until the end of the 2018/19 season. In his last year as coach of La Chaux-de-Fonds, he had led the team to first place in the main round ("qualification") and then to the final, where Langenthal lost 4-0. In December 2019 he became the head coach of HC Lugano and initially received a contract until the end of the season.

National team

In 2008, 2013 and 2014 Pelletier was an assistant coach on Team Canada at the Spengler Cup .
