Sergei Gennadjewitsch Bashkirow
Sergei Gennadjewitsch Bashkirow ( Russian Сергей Геннадьевич Башкиров; born December 30, 1977 in Cheboksary ( Chuvashia )) is a former Russian biathlete .
Bashkirov is a teacher and lives in Cheboksary. He has been practicing biathlon since 1988. He made his international debut in 1997 at the Junior World Championships in Forni Avoltri . He was sixth in the sprint and won the bronze medal in the relay. Bashkirow made his World Cup debut in 2001 in Ruhpolding . In the sprint, he reached 66th place there. The highlight of the season was his participation in the European Championships in Haute-Maurienne , where he was fifth in both the individual and the sprint. He then finished tenth in the singles at the pre-Olympic World Cup in Salt Lake City and was among the top 10 for the first time. The next high point of his career was a victory with the Russian World Cup relay at a mixed race in Ruhpolding in 2003. At the last stop of the 2002/03 World Cup season in Östersund , he achieved his best result to date with fourth place in the individual. Nevertheless, he could not establish himself permanently in a strong Russian team and therefore repeatedly commuted between the World and European Cup teams. In 2003 and 2004 he won four European Cup races, including a relay race, and came second twice. 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk and 2004 in Oberhof Bashkirov was used at biathlon world championships . Especially in Oberhof he achieved good placements as 13th in sprint and pursuit and 15th in the mass start.
