Career

Sergei Nikolajew began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth field of Kristall Saratow , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 1992/93 season . The goalkeeper then moved to his league rivals Torpedo Yaroslavl and Chimik Woskressensk for one year each . With Tolyatti, the Russian won the European Cup in the 1996/97 season , before he and his team failed in the playoff final for the Russian championship at his ex-club Torpedo Yaroslavl.

After he had finished the 1999/2000 season at Severstal Tscherepowez , Nikolayev moved to SKA Saint Petersburg for two years . He then spent four seasons at Salawat Julajew Ufa . From 2006 to 2008, the Russian was at HK Sibir Novosibirsk between the posts, where he played five games in parallel for their league rivals Metallurg Novokuznetsk in the 2007/08 season . In the summer of 2008 Nikolayev was obliged by Ak Bars Kazan from the newly founded Continental Hockey League , where he was available as the third goalkeeper from 2008 to 2011 for the injury-related loss of the two regular goalkeepers, but did not play a single KHL game.
