Sergei Evgenyevich Sewerin

Sergei Jewgenjewitsch Sewerin ( Russian Сергей Евгеньевич Северин ; born December 8 . Jul / 21st December  1901 greg. In Moscow ; † 15. August 1993 ) was a Soviet-Russian biochemist.

Sewerin studied medicine at the Lomonosov University with the degree in 1924. Then he was assistant at the Institute of Biochemistry at the University, where he was full professor of biochemistry in 1931.

He was particularly concerned with the biochemistry and energy balance of muscle tissue and identified and investigated various enzymes that play a role in this. In his early work he dealt with blood chemistry and the biochemistry of imidazoles .

In 1971 he was elected as a member of the Leopoldina . He was a member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. In 1982 he received the Lenin Prize .
