Sergei Wladimirowitsch Konjagin , Russian Серге́й Владимирович Конягин , English transcription Sergey Konyagin, (born April 25, 1957 in Saratow ) is a Russian mathematician who studies analysis.

Konjagin won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiads in 1972 and 1973, each with full points. He studied at Lomonossow University and received his doctorate from Sergei Borissowitsch Stetschkin (approximate properties of sets in normalized linear spaces, Russian). In 1989 he completed his habilitation ( Russian doctorate , with the dissertation: The representation of functions through trigonometric series (Russian)). He is a professor at Lomonosov University and a senior scientist at the Steklov Institute in Moscow.

He is particularly concerned with harmonic analysis, character sums with applications in analytical number theory, best approximation of functions and with polynomials. In 1981 he proved a conjecture by John Edensor Littlewood about a lower bound of averaged exponential sums.

In 1990 he received the Salem Prize . In 2006 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid ( Almost everywhere convergence and divergence of Fourier series ). In 2012 he became a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society . He is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
