Sergei Nikolaevich Starostin
Sergei Nikolajewitsch Starostin ( Russian Сергей Николаевич Старостин , always Sergey Starostin in English transcription and on the record covers ; born January 1, 1956 in Moscow ) is a Russian jazz and world music clarinetist and singer.
Starostin was a member of a children's choir and studied clarinet at the Moscow Conservatory from 1976 to 1981 . While traveling through the Soviet Union , he collected stories, folk music and traditional folk instruments. Since 1982 he has given seminars on singing and traditional wind instruments. In 1987 he received his own radio program in which he presented folk music, and since 1991 he has also directed a TV program.
In the Soviet Union Starostin became known with the Farlanders , a folk rock band that he led together with the singer Inna Schelannaja . In 1990 he joined the Michail Alperin / Arkady Shilkloper duo , with whom he formed the Moscow Art Trio .
Starostin also worked with the Sami singer Mari Boine ( Winter In Moscow ), the music ensemble Bylina , the folk quartet Slawitschi , the folk music theater Bratschina and the a cappella formation Kasatschi Klub . In 1995 he recorded the album The Bulgarian Voices - Fly Fly My Sadness under the direction of Alperin with the South Siberian ensemble Huun Hur-Tu and the Bulgarian women's choir Angelite . 1999 at the Edinburgh Arts Festival with Angelite in the Gray Friars Kirk the live album Sergey Starostin's Vocal Family - Journey was created .
