Sergei Ivanovich Belyavsky

Sergei Ivanovich Beliavsky ( Russian Сергей Иванович Белявский ; born November 25 . Jul / 7. December  1883 greg. In St. Petersburg , Russian Empire ; † 13. October 1953 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR ) was a Russian astronomer . Other spellings of the surname include a. Belyavsky , Beljawskij or Belyavskii .

Beljawski was born in Saint Petersburg, where he also died in 1953. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union and worked in the fields of astrometry and photometry and devoted himself to the study of variable stars .

Beljawski worked at the Crimean Observatory , where he discovered 36 asteroids and the bright comet C / 1911 S3 during his career .

The asteroid (1074) Beljawskya , discovered by himself, is named after him.
