Sergio Álvarez (born December 31, 1965 in Bogotá , Colombia ) is a Colombian writer and journalist.

Life

Álvarez did not complete his studies in philosophy, but went to the Colombian Orinoco lowlands, the Llanos Orientales , for a few years . After returning to his hometown, he began writing.

Álvarez 'first work La lectora deals with drug trafficking in Colombia and has since been filmed and broadcast on the country's national television. A film version is planned. His second work Mapaná is a book for young people and describes a generation conflict in the Amazon region of Colombia. It also addresses the environmental problems that exist there. His last novel 35 muertes tells the story of the period between 1965 and 1999 in Colombia, including the times of the civil war over drugs.

Álvarez lives in Barcelona and Bogotá. He writes for the Spanish daily newspapers El País and La Vanguardia .
