Sergio Fajardo
Sergio Fajardo Valderrama (born June 19, 1956 in Medellín ) is a Colombian mathematician and politician. He was Lord Mayor of Medellín and Governor of Antioquia .
Sergio Fajardo is one of the most recognized independent politicians in Colombia. Fajardo's career began outside of politics. Before entering public office, Fajardo was an academic; In 1984 he received his PhD in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison under Jerome Keisler with a Ph.D. (Dissertation: Contributions to the Model Theory of Probability Logics). His B.Sc. He previously acquired in 1977 at the Universidad de los Andes , where he later worked as a professor and director of the mathematical institute. After graduating from college, Fajardo proved to be a capable teacher, researcher, and scientist.
In the 1990s he published in recognized journals, his field of work was the application of methods of mathematical logic ( model theory , non-standard analysis , geometric spaces ) to questions of probability theory . Because of his reputation he was a member of the Colombian National Council for Basic Sciences and the National Commission of Masters and Doctorates.
His political career began with serving as Lord Mayor of Medellín between 2004 and 2007, running a vice-presidential candidacy and serving as governor of Antioquia from 2012 to 2016. His successes in governance have motivated the Colombian Alianza Verde (Green Party) of the country to to position him as a presidential candidate for Colombia's 2014 presidential election .
Fajardo stood as a candidate for the Coalición Colombia in the 2018 presidential elections in Colombia .
