biography

society

Sergio Lira began his professional career in 1978 in the service of Tampico-Madero FC , for whom he played until 1981. Before the 1981/82 season he moved to CF Atlante , in which he was largely unsuccessful, so a year later he tried his luck at CF Oaxtepec - and returned to his old strength (statistically one goal in every third game).

However, he had his most successful time on his return to Tampico-Madero FC, for whom he scored 99 goals in 209 games between 1984 and 1990 and was three times top scorer in the Mexican league.

He then moved to the UANL Tigres before ending his career at Puebla FC .

In the "eternal" scorer list of the Mexican Primera División, he is tenth with 190 goals.

National team

Between his debut on February 8, 1979 against the Soviet Union (1: 1) and his last international match on May 10, 1990 against the USA (1: 0) Lira brought it to a total of 14 appearances for the Mexican national team , with his international playing career on divided into three stages: the first six international matches he played between 1979 and 1981, the next six in 1987 and his last two in 1990. He scored a total of four goals: his first goal in a 4-0 win against South Korea on February 10, 1981 and one goal each in the games against El Salvador (3-1) and twice the Bahamas (3-0 and 13-0), all of which were played in the first third of 1987.
