Sergio Los (* 1934 in Marostica , Veneto ) is an Italian architect . He is considered to be one of the main representatives of Regional Bioclimatic Architecture, a design school that developed at the University of Iuav (Venice) in the 1970s under the influence of environmental and energy crises .

Los designed an architecture with local roots that adapts to local conditions and uses natural potential, especially solar energy . As early as 1980 Los made contributions to the organization PLEA (Passive and Low Energy Architecture), which promotes sustainable architecture on a global scale.

Life

Los studied with Carlo Scarpa at the University of Iuav . In 1967 he published the first book on Scarpa's architecture under the title Carlo Scarpa Architetto Poeta . He translated the Notes on the Synthesis of Form by Christopher Alexander into Italian in 1967 as well as The Geometry of Environment by L. March and P. Steadman in 1974.

From 1965 to 1971, Los taught interior design at Iuav University . From 1972 to 1978 he taught urban planning there with Giancarlo De Carlo . From 1979 to 2000 he taught architectural composition.

Prizes and awards

• In 1996 in Louvain-la-Neuve he won the 13th PLEA (Passive and Low Energy Architecture) International Award with Natasha F. Pulitzer.
• 1998 in Florence: WREN Pioneer Award
• 2003 Berlin: EUROSOLAR - European Solar Prize
