Sergio Matabuena Delgado (born February 12, 1979 in Santander , Cantabria ) is a former Spanish soccer player who played predominantly in midfield . Most recently he was under contract with Real Valladolid .

Career

Matabuena started playing football at Racing Santander . In 2007 he moved to Sporting Gijón , which at that time was still playing in the Segunda División , the second highest Spanish division. Finally, the 2008/09 season was promoted to the Primera División . At Sporting Gijón he is called "Matabuena Gatusso" because of his well-developed skills as a defensive midfielder.

In the 2010/2011 season, however, he lost his regular place and moved to the Spanish second division Real Valladolid in January 2011 without a transfer . He signed a contract there until the end of June 2012, which was not subsequently extended. Then he ended his career.
