Serpentara ( Italian : Isola di Serpentara ) is an uninhabited island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the southeast coast of Sardinia . The island is 4 km from the Sardinian coastal town of Villasimius .
The approximately 1.2 km long and up to 350 m wide island is rocky throughout. In front of it to the north are the Variglioni , a very small uninhabited group of islands consisting of three rocks .
At the highest point on the island, at 54 m, there is an observation tower , the Torre di San Luigi .
