The Serpentine River is a small river on the north flank of the Richmond Range on New Zealand's South Island .

The river passes a forest area near Richmond and then flows into the Roding River , which flows over the Lee River to the Wairoa River .

The border between the Nelson and Marlborough regions follows the river for a short distance. The Serpentine River Road follows the course of the river for most of its course and crosses it several times. It ends on the Aniseed Valley Road , which leads from Richmond into the mountains.
