Life and meaning

Nakhasathien graduated from University College London with a Masters in Resource and Environmental Protection . He then drew up a UNESCO World Heritage application to protect an area for wild animals and to protect the forests from further damage. The Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary provides habitat for endangered species . Nakhasathien was the head of this sanctuary. The year after his death, the area became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are two versions of his death: On the one hand, he is said to have committed suicide to draw attention to the protest for nature conservation . Joachim Radkau mentions contract killing by timber companies as the second possible cause of death .

After his death, forest protection became more important in Thailand. The Royal Forestry Department established reforestation projects and pursued legal violations . Furthermore, the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation was founded, whose goal is the preservation of nature reserves and game reserves as well as endangered species.
