Seven Marine is an American manufacturer of high-performance outboard motors for seaworthy motor boats.

Company history

The company was founded in 2010 by Rick Davis, who previously held senior positions with Mercury Marine for several years . Davis' objective was to develop and build the most powerful outboard motor in the world. Development began in August 2010 and in mid-February 2011 the concept was presented at the Miami International Boat Show in cooperation with the US boat manufacturer Intrepid Powerboats.

The "557" model, which is designed for boats with a minimum length of 27 feet (approx. 8 meters), was ready for series production in March 2012. The type designation refers to the output of 409  kW (557  PS ) on the propeller shaft.

In 2015, the company announced an upgraded version of the "557" engine called the "627".

On July 6, 2017 it was announced that Volvo-Penta will become the majority owner of Seven Marine.

The outboard motors that are now available are considered the most powerful representatives of their type worldwide:

  • "557" with an output of 409  kW (557  PS )
  • "577s" with an output of 430  kW (577  PS )
  • "627sv" with an output of 468  kW (627  PS )

Seven Marine has offices in Florida , on the American east coast, on Sint Maarten and in Abu Dhabi .

technology

As a drive unit of Seven-marine outboard engines comes V-eight-cylinder - Small block engine of the type gene IV LS9 of General Motors with a displacement of 6.2 liters and supercharging is used, which - in contrast to the conventional design with outboard motors - horizontally above of the shaft is installed.

In order to be able to use the engine for use in shipping, the engine cooling and exhaust system had to be largely redeveloped. The cooling system consists of a primary and a secondary circuit as well as a heat exchanger. This prevents salty water from entering the cooling ducts of the engine block. In order to keep the dimensions of the heat exchanger as small as possible, the engine itself is cooled with ethylene glycol . The exhaust system ends in two exposed tailpipes above the waterline. Power is transmitted via an electronically controlled five-disc clutch that runs in an oil bath and was developed by ZF Friedrichshafen .

The engines can be operated with different propeller configurations as a single or multi-engine system. In order to reduce the wheel effect in a single-engine system, the units have also been offered with counter-rotating 5-blade coaxial propellers under the additional designation "CR" ("contra-rotating") since 2014. With a single propeller and a shaft length of 508 mm (20 inches), the outboard weighs 497 kg.
