The Seven Mile Bridge is the longest bridge on the Overseas Highway that connects the islands of the Florida Keys . It is 10,931 meters (6.79 miles) long and is located between the islands of Vaca Key in the city of Marathon and Bahia Honda .

history

Designed by French Jean Muller , the bridge opened in 1982 and replaced the Knight's Key Bridge , Moser Channel Bridge , Pacet Channel Viaduct, and Pigeon Key Bridge , all of which opened in 1912.

In January 2006, Cuban refugees - who were on an abandoned section of the bridge that was not connected to the land - were deported on the grounds that the bridge was not part of the land, but part of the water in the sense of the wet feet, dry feet policy that the refugees would not have reached the USA . Thereupon supporters of the micronation appearing as “ Conch Republic Special Forces” occupied the building and set flags with which the occupation of the ailing bridge was publicly expressed. The US government then revised its statement.
