The Severin Elektrogeräte GmbH is a manufacturer of household electrical appliances based in Sundern .

Company history

The Severin company emerged from a forge founded by Anton Severin in 1892 . After the First World War , the Anton Severin metal factory was founded. With the manufacture of curtain rods, it was one of several companies in Sundern that specialized in this area of metal goods production. In December 1921, the later Severin Elektrogeräte GmbH was founded as A. Severin & Co. limited liability company. In 1922 the production site was relocated to the city and the production of aluminum tableware began. A short time later this product range was discontinued. The manufacture of cake plates, coasters and glass plates became more important, and serving trolleys were added later.

Business remained rather modest until after the end of the Second World War . This changed after the currency reform ; the company benefited from the rising demand for consumer goods. In 1948 a new factory hall was built. Since 1952 Severin has mainly produced electrical goods, especially for the household. Between 1956 and 1962 the company expanded rapidly and added four factory buildings. A branch was established in Wenholthausen in 1962, which initially produced hoods for drying and heating, but later mainly coffee machines. In 1966 another plant was opened in Wallen near Meschede . In the year of the 75th anniversary in 1967, 200 different types of small electrical appliances were manufactured. A plant in Berge near Meschede was set up in 1977 to manufacture plastic parts . The plants in Wallen and Wenholthausen were later closed again.

Today's structure

The product range includes items such as coffee machines, kettles, toasters, egg boilers, barbecue and raclette grills, mixers, vacuum cleaners, hair and body care products. In total, there are more than 200 different electrical devices in the Sauerland's delivery program. In 2011 the company had over 2,600 employees worldwide and is represented in over 80 countries. Severin has sales offices in France, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy and Poland. Production has been carried out in production plants in Shenzhen , China , since 1995 . Production in Sundern was discontinued in 2020. The summer of 2013 reduced the number of employees Severin in Sundern because of low conversion of 387 in 2012 to 52 335. In the 24 months to August 2014 showed Severin by launch more than 60 new products and numerous patents special ability to innovate . In March 2015, the Knauf family from Dortmund invested in Severin and acquired a 49% stake. On May 1, 2018, the Knauf family took over 100% of the company shares. In spring 2020, the company launched a new, innovative barbecue platform, which was awarded the Kitchen Innovation Prize.
