Life

Ziegenbalg was born the son of the Syndic Martin Ziegenbalg and was baptized on July 12, 1681 in Groß Salze. The father came from Radeberg and, like his grandfather, was a student at the Princely School in Meissen . Before his time in Groß Salze, his father worked as a lawyer in Eisleben . On December 2nd, 1710 Severin Gottlieb Ziegenbalg married in the Sankt-Johannis-Kirche in Magdeburg. However, his wife's name is unknown. On January 8, 1713, his daughter Anna Cathrina was baptized in the Ulrichskirche in Magdeburg.

The baroque pulpit altar of the Sankt Stephanus Church in Westerhüsen was created during this time . Ziegenbalg died shortly after the completion of the work at the age of only 32 years. He was buried on the evening of August 8, 1713 in the Ulrichsgemeinde.

In view of the craftsmanship of Westerhüsen's work, other works by Ziegenbalgs are assumed. However, a specific assignment is not known. The pulpit altar that he created in Westerhüsen was destroyed in an air raid in 1945, as was the entire nave of the St. Stephen's Church.
