Severstal Aircompany ( Russian ООО Авиапредприятие Северсталь ) is a Russian airline based in Cherepovets . It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Russian metallurgy group Severstal . The home airport is the Cherepovets airport 25 km north of the city of the same name.

history

During the collapse of the Soviet Union , Cherepovets Airport became part of the Cherepovets Metallurgy Combine in 1991 . The combine privatized in 1993 , which belongs to the Severstal company, continued to run the airport and the associated airline as an organizational sub-unit. Flights were carried out for the company's board of directors. Since 1998 the company has operated its own passenger flights to Moscow and Saint Petersburg . In 2002 the airport and the airline were spun off into their own subsidiary.

On April 28, 2018, it was announced that the company had signed a contract for the purchase of six Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft at an air show in Gelendzhik . The total purchase price was 11 billion  rubles . The aircraft are to be delivered between 2018 and 2022, replace the previous machines and contribute to an increase in the number of passengers. The airline is scheduled to receive the first aircraft of this type in October 2018 and start operations one month later.
