Sextus

Sextus (Latin "the sixth", abbreviated sex. ) Was a Roman given name ( praenomen ). Like Quintus and Decimus, it is one of the first names derived from numerals and originally possibly referred to the birth in the month of Sextilis (now August).

Further meaning: In Renaissance choral music such as madrigal and motet , sextus (also: sexta vox = sixth voice) refers to a sixth voice that is added to the five-part soprano / cantus, alto , tenor , bass and quintus , which can be in different vocal ranges.
