Shūji Matsuno

Shūji Matsuno ( Japanese 松 野 修 二 , Matsuno Shūji ; born September 11, 1963 in Yamanashi Prefecture ) is a former badminton player from Japan .

Career

Matsuno qualified in men's doubles with Shinji Matsuura for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona . In the first round both won against the South Africans Nico Meerholz and Anton Kriel with 2-0 sets. In the following round they won against Chan Siu Kwong and Ng Pak Kum from Hong Kong just as clearly in two sets. In the quarterfinals they were defeated by Razif Sidek and Jalani Sidek from Malaysia with 5:15 and 4:15, so that at the end of the day they finished 5th.

Nationally both were successful in doubles in 1983 and 1985 to 1992. Matsuno also won the men's singles in 1989 and 1991. In 1988 Matsuno and Matsuura were third at the Olympic Games, where badminton was performed as a demonstration sport.
