The Shaanxi SX250 ( 延安 SX250 , also referred to as the Yanan SX250 by the manufacturer ) is a heavy truck with three axles and all-wheel drive , which is mainly used for military purposes. The vehicle was produced by the Chinese Shaanxi Heavy-duty Automobile Group , or Shaanxi for short, in Yan'an .

History of origin

Most of the trucks used by the People's Liberation Army in the 1950s came from Soviet or French production. Against the background of the Sino-Soviet rift in the 1960s, the USSR discontinued military cooperation with the People's Republic of China. From then on, various factories were built in the People's Republic - some with French help - to meet the needs of the armed forces' military trucks. The first Chinese model was the Hanyang CQ260 , which was the basis of the Shaanxi SX250 introduced in 1969. Series production only began in 1974 after all construction problems had been resolved. A total of 13,000 vehicles in different versions were produced for the People's Liberation Army. The modified Yanan SX250K is still in service with the army. Exports of the SX250 went to Bangladesh .

Type 81 multiple rocket launcher

The Shaanxi SX250's 6 × 6 chassis is based on that of the Soviet Ural-375 , which was one of the most widely used military trucks in the Soviet Army . However, the cab is based on that of the Hanyang CQ260 , which ultimately goes back to the French truck model Berliet GBU-15 . The four-door cab offers space for four people. The basic model with a flatbed structure and tarpaulin has a payload of 5000 kg in the field, 10,000 kg can be transported on paved roads. The cargo space can be covered with a tarpaulin and bow . The Shaanxi SX250 was mainly used as a tractor for artillery pieces. The maximum trailer load is 6500 kg and is sufficient for medium-sized guns. Other vehicle versions of the SX250 served, for example, as base vehicles for the Type 81 multiple rocket launcher . Early versions were powered by a Chinese liquid-cooled diesel engine with a five-speed gearbox, while later versions such as the SX2150K featured the Austrian turbocharged diesel engine WD615.71 from Steyr with an output of 191 kW at 2600 rpm and a Fuller RT11509C gearbox. The SX2150K is a further development and modernization of the SX2150. A lot of the technology was taken over from Steyr, which is evidently reflected in the changed and Steyr-like driver's cab. In addition, a vehicle family was built from derivatives and new designs using the same technologies as the SX2150K. Apart from the SX2150K, the vehicle family also includes the following models:
