Shadian
The street district Shadian沙 甸 街道, until September 2019 the large community of Shadian 沙 甸 镇, is a place in the city of Gejiu ( Chinese 个旧 市 , Pinyin Gèjiù Shì ), an independent city in the autonomous district of Honghe der Hani and Yi in the south of the Chinese province of Yunnan . It is located in the Yunnan Province in the southwest of the country, about 180 kilometers south of the provincial capital Kunming . It is the largest Hui settlement in Gejiu. The place has an area of 15.4 square kilometers and has 12,900 inhabitants (2006).
Shadian incident
The place is known from the so-called Shadian Incident (沙 甸 事件) towards the end of the Cultural Revolution with many dead. The government then provided a lot of money for a Great Mosque (沙 甸 大 清真寺), one of the largest mosques in the People's Republic of China .
