action

Cosplayer as the goddess of light

In ancient times there was only the goddess Etain and the three races she created: the dragons, the Nordein and the Dumianas. Since the goddess Etain considered her creation of the Nordein to be flawed, she banished it underground. This act, however, fueled the arrogance of the Dumianas and they began to question the power and authority of the goddess, which ultimately led to the manifestation of the goddess, weakened by her unbelief, being killed and her soul torn in two.

The death of the goddess had far-reaching consequences, because it left Teos unbalanced and defenseless. Before long, other gods fell upon Teos, trying to either take or destroy Teos, creating monsters, and the dragons hiding from the world. When the dust settled, however, there were two goddesses who now watched over Teos. What was left of the Dumianas was quickly found in two camps, one for each goddess.

These two races, the Elves and the Vail, started a constant conflict with one another. After years of fighting, humans joined forces with those of the Elves, and the Nordein returned to the surface as Death Eaters on the Vail side.

Two hostile factions quickly formed: the Alliance of Light and the Alliance of Anger. Strengthened by both sides, both sides began a never-ending war over control of Teos.

Difficulty levels

One of the greatest characteristics of Shaiya are the four levels of difficulty:

  • The simple mode (EM) allows you to reach the maximum level of 30 and requires fewer experience points to reach a new level. However, many skills and items are not available.
  • The normal mode (NM) is a bit more time-consuming to play than the simple mode, but already allows you to reach the maximum level 70. Here, the experience points required for new levels, skills and items are on a middle line.
  • Hard mode (HM) is the general standard for most players and unlocks additional skills, items and tasks. Reaching higher levels is four times harder than in normal mode.
  • The ultimate mode (UM) is unlocked as soon as the player reaches level 40 with at least one character in hard mode. This mode is similar to hard mode with a few differences: If a character in Ultimate Mode is incapacitated and is not revived within 3 minutes, that character will be deleted forever. To compensate, the strongest weapons and equipment are reserved for the players in Ultimate Mode. Revival runes can be bought to avoid deletion. The player usually pays real money for these animation runes.
  • Addition: In later Shaiya episodes the character selection was limited to the hard mode and the ultimate mode, as the other modes were no longer used.

Factions and races

At the beginning each player has to choose one of two factions: the Alliance of Light or the Alliance of Fury. Since both factions are in constant conflict, an alliance player cannot communicate with the players of the other faction. After choosing a faction, it is also not possible to create additional characters from the other faction without first deleting all characters from this faction.

The appearance of the character and their starting locations are determined by the chosen side and race. All races from both factions have the same customization options: gender, hair, face, and height. Only the twelve classes are divided between the two races on each side and are fixed.

Classes

There are twelve classes, which are divided as follows:

  • Defenders (humans) / guardians (Nordein, also called Death Eaters)
The only playable tank (front fighter), heavily armored and equipped with many health points. His ability to provoke players reflects his function: instead of dealing damage, his job is to prevent other party members from taking damage.
  • Fighters (people) / warriors (Nordein)
Standard melee with a wide range of effective weapons and even some spells.
  • Priests (people) / oracles (vail)
The only class with healing and resuscitation abilities, but extremely weak armor. Although they know some offensive spells, their strengths clearly lie in supporting and healing other group members.
  • Ranger (Elf) / Assassin (Vail)
Stealth, deception, and evasion are common tactics used to hit an opponent before they have a chance to strike back.
  • Archer (Elf) / Hunter (Nordein)
This class primarily uses ranged weapons such as bows and javelins to wound and slow down enemies from a distance. Their light armor is particularly suitable for kiting opponents.
  • Magus (Elf) / Heath (Vail)
These classes are characterized by the fact that they cause high damage from a distance with their special area of effect and other magic spells.

control

Players can either choose a preferred type of control or use both simultaneously: either the click-and-run control or the more familiar WASD control. All player skills can also be dragged into a quick bar and triggered with quick keys.

development

On August 26, 2013, Aeria Games imported the "Iron Invasion" (German: Eiserne Invasion) expansion into the Shaiya game. This expansion brings new features, a new boss (Tyros), new opponents and a new dungeon (Infinite Sanctuary) to the game.

In 2016, the Korean server was closed and Nexon stopped developing the game. Aeria Games is now in possession of the source code itself and presented its first patch in spring 2017.
