The Shakotan Peninsula ( Japanese 積 丹 半島 , Shakotan-hantō ) is a peninsula in Hokkaidō Prefecture in Japan .
It lies west of Sapporo and is on the west coast of the island of Hokkaidō in Hokkaidō Prefecture and extends west into the Sea of Japan .
