Shamo Quaye (born October 22, 1971 in Tema , † November 30, 1997 in Accra ) was a Ghanaian football player .
Career
From 1989 to 1993 Quaye played for the Accra Hearts of Oak . At the 1992 Summer Olympics , the midfielder took part with the Ghanaian U-23 national team and won the bronze medal. In 1993 he moved to Saudi Arabia to al-Qadisiyah , where he was deployed 50 times. In 1995 he returned to Hearts of Oak for one season before moving to Sweden for Umeå FC . After the end of the season in Sweden, the midfielder traveled back to his home country after being hit by a ball in the face during a training game, which resulted in complications that ultimately led to his death. Until his death, Quaye was an integral part of the Ghanaian national team , for which he completed 41 games.
