Shane Claiborne (born July 11, 1975 ) is an American book author, political activist and Christian speaker who is counted among the Left Evangelicals (American: Red-Letter Christians ).

Life

He is known for his books " I must be crazy to live like this: Uncompromising experiments in matters of charity ", " Jesus for President " and " God answers differently: How we become the answer to our prayers ".

In his books, he propagates a Christian lifestyle that primarily involves caring for and welcoming people on the fringes of society. Claiborne clarifies political, ecological and economic difficulties (including sweatshop problems) and offers solutions and suggestions for a different sustainable and ethical lifestyle.

Claiborne went on various trips, of which he reports in his book " I must be crazy to live like this ... ". Among other things, he spent several weeks in a leprosy hospital and other projects of Mother Teresa in Calcutta and traveled to Iraq as a peace activist to protest against the Iraq war . This trip is also documented in the book " Iraq Journal ".

Claiborne lives in a convent-like community in a poor area of Philadelphia , The Simple Way , which also welcomes married couples and runs charitable activities in their neighborhood. He is the visionary and leader of this community. He has been married to Katie Jo Brotherton since 2011.
