Carl Gösta Björn Joachim von der Esch (born January 11, 1930 , † March 6, 2010 ) was a Swedish politician from the Moderata samlingspartiet and the Kristdemokraterna .

biography

Von der Esch was initially a naval officer , court marshal and lay judge , before he settled down as a farmer in Västerljung . He later studied business administration at Uppsala University and presented his disputation there in 1972 . He became known to a wider public in Sweden as the chairman of the board of the independent radio station Radio Nova in Vagnhärad .

His political career began as a candidate of the Moderate Party in 1991 with the arrival as a member of the Reichstag in which he substitutes of Per Westerberg was the economy minister had become. He was a member of the Reichstag until 1994. In the referendum on Sweden's membership of the European Union in 1994, he was one of the opponents of membership, since he saw no advantages for Sweden in belonging to the European Economic Area . In the referendum, only 2,453,899 voters (42.0 percent) spoke out in favor of joining and thus for the introduction of the euro , while 3,265,341 voters (55.9 percent) voted against, so that Sweden's currency is the Swedish krona maintained.

In 2008 he became vice-chairman of the eurosceptic party Junilistan and was in second place on the list of candidates for the 2009 European elections . In the election , however, the party only received 3.55 percent of the vote and thus not only lost 10.92 percentage points compared to the 2004 European elections , but also all three seats in the European Parliament.
