Shanganagh Castle ( Irish Caisleán Sheangánaí ) is a ruined castle near Mill Lane in Shankill , a suburb of the Irish capital Dublin and a country house in the same location.
history
In 1408 the Lawless family had the castle built. The descendants of the builders still lived there until 1763. In 1783 it was destroyed by fire. Today only four ruinous walls and a tower remain.
At the end of the 18th century, on the border between Skanhill and County Wicklow , a country house of the same name ( Shanganagh House ) was built in the midst of extensive grounds. The house served as an open prison for young people from 1969–2002 .
