The Shaolin Temple Germany is a Buddhist temple of the Chinese Order of Shaolin and is based in Berlin . It is the only legitimate Shaolin temple in Germany that was founded as an official offshoot of the Chinese mother temple by Rainer Deyhle on behalf of the Chinese abbot Shi Yongxin . The mother temple in China is considered the birthplace of Chan Buddhism and is still known for the development of the martial art Shaolin Kung Fu . The temple in Berlin is one of the largest chan Buddhist centers outside of China.

The temple was founded in July 2001 by Rainer Deyhle and inaugurated by Shi Yongxin, abbot of the mother temple, as the only legitimate Shaolin temple in Germany.

In November 2004, Grand Master Shi Yong Chuan was appointed abbot of the German Shaolin Temple by Abbot Shi Yongxin. Shi Yong Chuan, born in Henan Province in 1969, entered the Shaolin Mother Temple in 1986 at the age of 17 and was ordained a Buddhist monk. Before he came to Germany, he studied at the Academy of Buddhism in Beijing (Peking). He is the author of the first Shaolin book in German ("More Energy through Shaolin QiGong") and President of Shaolin Tempel Deutschland e. V.

On September 17th, 2011 the Shaolin Temple Germany celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Shaolin Temple Germany is also the seat of the Shaolin Europe Association (SEA).

Shaolin monks in Germany

Shaolin monks in Germany are Shi Yong Chuan, the grandmaster Shi Yong Dao and the masters Shi Xiao Hu and Shi Yan Yao, who are also officially registered with the mother temple.

Work and goals

In the Berlin temple Shi Yong Chuan gives regular classes in Buddhism, Chan meditation, Shaolin Qigong and takes on pastoral tasks. Several times a week the masters give courses in Shaolin martial arts , Taijiquan and Qigong , which are aimed at participants of all ages.

The aims of the temple include spreading the practice, culture and philosophy of Shaolin in Germany and Europe. This includes in particular the teaching of the chan Buddhist way of thinking and living, the martial arts Shaolin Kung Fu and Taijiquan, as well as Qigong; also traditional Chinese medicine ( TCM ) and Shaolin calligraphy. Another aim of the temple is to build a temple complex based on the Chinese model in Germany through the Friends' Association in order to train novices and thus promote Buddhism in Germany.

Others

In November 2007 the Berlin Shaolin monks prepared the Olympians of the Beijing team from the Rhine-Neckar region for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with Taijiquan and Kung Fu exercises . On June 23, 2008, the animated comedy Kung Fu Panda was officially presented to the press in the Shaolin Temple in Berlin, in the presence of the actors Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black and Hape Kerkeling.
