Sharon Pratt Kelly (born January 30, 1944 in Washington, DC ) is an American politician .

Career

Sharon Kelly was born as Sharon Pratt. She has since adopted this name again after a divorce in 1999. At times she was also called Sharon Pratt Dixon. She studied political science at Howard University until 1965 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted as a lawyer in 1968, she began to work in this profession. At the same time she embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1977 to 1990 she was a member of the Democratic National Committee . From 1985 to 1989 she was treasurer of the federal party.

In 1990 Kelly was elected mayor of Washington . She held this office from 1991 to 1995. Throughout her tenure, she had internal party difficulties with the wing that supported her predecessor Marion Barry . In the following election campaign she was accused of wasting money. As a result, she was unable to prevail in her party's primaries and only reached third place. The primary winner was her predecessor, Barry, who was re-elected to this post in 1994.

Since then, Sharon Pratt Kelly has run her own company, Pratt Consulting , which works in the security sector.
