Sharon Ruth Shinn (* 1957 in Wichita ) is an American writer in the science fiction and fantasy genre.

Sharon Shinn lives in St. Louis . She graduated from Northwestern University . Shinn began her career as a journalist, writing for The Professional Photographer , DECOR , and BizEd . She worked for DECOR magazine alone for 17 years. She has been writing poetry since she was eight years old. After completing her studies, she mainly wrote in the evenings and on the weekends. In 1995 she published her first novel, Imzeichen der Weide ( The Shape-Changer's Wife ), which was very well received and for which she won the William L. Crawford Fantasy Award for the first fantasy novel of the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts was awarded. She was also, as in the following year for her second novel Archangels ( Archangel ) for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer nominated. Her debut work is about a student of magic who has to realize that his magic teacher has not only transformed inanimate objects into willing servants. She has now published more than 20 novels and several short stories, including four series of novels, for both adult and younger readers. Only her first two novels have appeared in German so far.
